Homeschoolers Have Class.... Everywhere

After plowing through the first quarter of school pretty hard, we have all kind of hit a wall and are ready for a break from the normal routine (especially mom). So most of our homeschooling last week was done away from our living room and dining room table.

We went to the theater (because you know we are so sophisticated and all) and saw a live production of Peter and the Wolf.

Afterwards we went out to eat, and in true homeschooler-geek fashion, we all ran up to this mushroom decor in the restaurant and started pointing out all the different parts of the mushroom (since we had just learned about them in one of latest nature studies). Hope Grandpa wasn't too embarrassed. :)

We also took a hike around this waterfall park

using anything but the path to hike on

Don't you love it when the kids take time to smell the flowers?

We did an oak tree and acorn study for our nature study this week

with a few minor distractions

The kids learned how to use magnifying glasses to concentrate the sun's rays into a small point in our Apologia Astronomy study of the sun (how did I make it through childhood and never try this?)

That first wisp of smoke was one thrilling moment

of course, melting chocolate bars eventually led to burning holes in leaves

and eventually to this....
but luckily they haven't figured this one out, yet.
But BeachPea runs outside everytime the sun peeks out from behind a cloud to give it another try.

This picture doesn't have anything to do with school, but I caught a rare shot of all 4 kids like, being friends, so I had to include it :)

This weekend the girls danced the "Hoedown Throwdown" at a local festival
Oops, wrong way, Lil' Diva

As usual, big sister is there to straighten her out

Lil' Diva did choose to do a little inside school work this week,
but of course, had to look totally cool while doing it :)

Check out what other homeschooler did last week at the Weekly Wrap-Up

  1. What a great week!! I'm sure grandpa was impressed by their knowledge of mushrooms.

My favorite part about burning the chocolate was how good it smelled. Mmmm....

  3. Great times! I have to watch my kids with those mag. lenses, too. It was two years ago when we did that with astronomy, and they still remember it and ask to burn things!
